Newly opened migrant support centre: ACMIconnect

  • Oct 19, 2022

ACMI aims to bring services like counselling, case management, skills development courses and wellness workshops to where the migrants are. Starting with ACMIconnect @ Zion located at the Church of St Bernadette, which was officially opened on 25 September 2022 by His Eminence, Cardinal William Goh, after the Migrant Sunday mass.

From left – Fr Dinil Abraham (Assistant Priest of the Church of St Bernadette), Friar Francisco Jude Basnayake (Spiritual Director, ACMI), Raymundo Yu (Chairperson, ACMI), His Eminence, Cardinal William Goh, and Jacob Soo (Executive Director, ACMI) at the opening of ACMIconnect @ Zion.

Migrants can seek support like counselling, case management, and informational and referral services at no cost. We hope that they can call ACMIconnect a safe place where they can build community, feel welcomed, included, and valued.

Through this initiative, we also aim to engage more volunteers within the migrant communities and identify volunteer leaders whom we can empower with skills like para-counselling to better help the migrant communities. With this, create a virtuous cycle which encompasses them not just receiving but enabling them to give back.  Valuing and recognising them as active members of society.

Just like our collaboration with the Church of St Bernadette, we hope to pursue more partnerships with parishes.

Our next centre, ACMIconnect @ Ophir, is slated to launch in 2023 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes.
